VueLink for FileNet adds powerful document view and markup capabilities to the FileNet client by providing a seamless user interface between the FileNet clients and AutoVue products. VueLink tightly interfaces at both the client and server levels. The FileNet clients are supported in both a client-server, and intranet/Internet configuration through a Web browser.
AutoVue and VueLink for FileNet are also available in a Client-Server Edition. This solution allows for the seamless integration of Cimmetry’s Client-Server Edition visualization products with the FileNet document management system. This version retains all the functionality of the standalone yet is fully installed and administered on the server side. Client machines can thus access, view and annotate documents from their Web browsers and directly from within the FileNet file structure.
Markups/Annotations/Redlines are automatically saved in the server and are available for other users to edit and/or view, according to their access level.
Benefits
- View e-mail attachments, annotate them, and return the annotations to the sender.
- Work with both the FileNET client and FileNet server for from within Netscape Navigator or MSIE for Web, Internet and intranet access.
- CAD-enabled to handle complex AutoCAD and MicroStation drawings with X-Refs and Reference files.
- Powerful central repository and management of the Markup/Annotation/Redline files.
Features and Capabilities
FileNET itself, as a document management system, does not provide users the means to view documents in their native formats without the authoring applications. FileNet users can now access this desirable feature through the integration of an outside viewing application.
VueLink and AutoVue Professional for FileNet provide users the following powerful features and capabilities locally or remotely via a Web browser.
Viewing and Printing Features
- Securely and accurately View 450+ Engineering and Business document formats securely and accurately, in their native format (or PDF rendition) from the FileNet server – without opening the applications
- View multi-content objects
- Graphically compare drawings
- Print documents with header, footer and watermark information queried from specific document attributes, to assist your ISO compliancy
- Handle complex engineering documents with external references, layers and blocks
- Flexible Batch Printing options
- Convert documents to popular graphics formats
Markup Features
- Markup/Redline/Annotate documents directly with one comprehensive set of markup tools
- Work with multiple markup layers and files
- Consolidate several markup files into a single markup file
- Associate markups with specific document revisions
- Migrate markups to new revisions as required
- Create and store Acrobat PDF renditions of a document as well as associated markups, directly from your workstation (Acrobat Product required)
- Control access to Regular, Read-only, Master, and Consolidated markup files
- Create hyperlinks to connect to other documents / applications
- Sign markups, using CIC electronic signature package (CIC tool required)
- Attach multiple markup files to a document or a rendition. Markup files automatically track revisions of a document; each revision has a distinct set of related markup files. Markups valid for a subsequent revision can be promoted to that revision.
Towards a True Paperless Environment
A document may be routed to a wide range of people within any workflow cycle.
FileNet users can now view diverse documents authentically, in their native formats, using a single uniform interface. This dispenses with the need to convert to another format or create a rendition before viewing and annotation. VueLink and AutoVue give users the ability to view and annotate documents stored as file attachments, as well as the ability to manage the annotations.
In a paper-based environment, copies of the documents are printed and sent to various reviewers to study and annotate. Each either “marks up” or redlines their comments directly on their copy, or attach explanatory sticky notes to it. The annotated documents may then be compiled into a consolidated set, and sent on to a supervisor for further review. The author would incorporate the approved information into one or more revised drafts of the original document. Further review/revision cycles are often necessary. The document is finally approved, published and available for use.
AutoVue harnesses the universal appeal that the paper environment offers with its intuitive electronic markup tools. AutoVue combines these with the full advantages that an electronic workflow provides, such as stronger document management, and rapid information exchange. With AutoVue, a document can be accessed either in its native format, or as a print rendition in PDF, PCL, HPGL or TIFF formats.
Other Features
VueLink for FileNET also provides a solid basis to which users can add powerful functionality via custom designed tools to further enhance their FileNet installation.
Users can create an intelligent Markup Stamp that queries the database for the current relevant information (author, date…) that should be included in the stamp.
Custom applications can be created to extract relevant information from an AutoCAD or MicroStation drawing, and link to it with information available in the database (or other system), such as a Bill of Materials for example.
Elevate the concept of intelligent drawings to a new level with AutoVue. Contact your account manager, or our technical support representatives to discuss the possibilities with us.
An integration between FileNet and the AutoVue family of products is also available from McLaren Software.
